Day 78, July 27, 2014

It's a catch-up day!  Use your reading chart (or this blog) to find the chapters you still need to read to be caught up through:  3 Nephi 8.

OR

If you are up-to-date on your reading, take time to study:  Helaman 13.

To ponder:
What did Samuel the Lamanite preach to the wicked Nephites before the Savior came?  What are modern prophets teaching us as we prepare for Christ's second coming?

  1. It's always so interesting to me to discover new things as you read and study the scriptures. As I read through Helaman 13, a couple of new things jumped right out at me! :)

First, in verse 22, it is pointed out that we do a really great job of remembering our riches (i.e., our things!) but we do a really bad job of remembering to say thank you to the Lord! Our hearts swell with pride, we boast of the things we have and the things we do. I have to remember this scripture and do better!

I also more fully appreciate verse 27 where it is pointed out that when we hear what we want to hear, then we just love that leader and will do anything for him or her. It's much harder when our prophet counsels us in those areas where we are not doing so well, or counsels us to do things that are difficult and hard.

Verse 38 is just plain scary! :) What stood out more to me today is when the Lord says: "Ye have sought for happiness in doing iniquity." We aren't going to find happiness in the things of the world, we are going to find happiness in following our Prophet, in keeping the commandments and doing what is right each and every day.

    1. Wow... thanks for pointing those things out! It gives me a lot more to ponder. I like what you said about verse 38... it's easy to think this way sometimes. But true happiness will never come from sin!

  2. Chapter 9: the wicked (in other words the weak - those who choose to excuse themselves from doing what is right) will be destroyed and miserable for eternity. Any feeling of safety in the midst of doing less than you can will only be temporary - consequences will be exacted. Christ is the light! He has come and will come again! Build a relationship with him. Do all he asks, commands - all of it is for our eternal good and happiness.

Chapter 10: When we do what Christ asks, we are not left on our own - he becomes and remains our companion. We are allowed his strength, comfort, perspective, knowledge etc. Satan stays with us until he doesn't have to persuade us and then he leaves us miserable. Remain with Christ and you will never be alone or without hope.
