Day 42, June 21, 2014

Note:  I am posting Saturday's reading a bit early! :)

Read:  Alma 10-11
Mark:  Alma 11:42-44

"What a comfort to know that all who have been disadvantaged in life from birth defects, from mortal injuries, from disease, or from natural deterioration of old age will be resurrected in "proper and perfect frame." --Elder Dallin H. Oaks

To ponder:
How does it bring you hope knowing that because of Christ we will all live again?

  1. Couple of things I find interesting in these chapters - the righteous can preserve the wicked. Stay righteous and your loves ones who have gone astray have hope. This is not the only place in the scriptures that portray the presence of one righteous person protecting masses of wicked people.
Speak with the spirit or not at all.
All will be accountable for their own transgressions and our knowledge will be perfect of those transgressions. We won't be able to deny our guilt. Repent & lose no opportunity to do good.
I love that when Alma and Amulek talk to Zeezrom and point out who he serves the devil they still refer the devil as Zeezrom's adversary. No matter how much we turn away from Christ and toward Satan, the devil will ALWAYS be our adversary. He will turn away from us the moment he thinks we will continue to do what he wants without his urgings. He seeks no independent, capable warriors - only an army of mindless drones.
Can I say that I am impressed by Zeezrom? How many chances were Laman and Lemuel given where their foolishness was pointed out to them and they accepted it for a minute, but mostly let their guilt turn to anger and disdain? Zeezrom is called out - in front of EVERYONE - and he LISTENS. He didn't even plan to have an open mind, but he allowed his mind to open and his heart to soften. He even grew anxious and asked for more. I hope we can all be so surprisingly humble when we are called out!

    1. Sarah! I had not even thought of that with Zeezrom--you are so right! He did listen and he changed! This gives me great hope! :)

  2. Tonight I want to just share with you a couple of thoughts from "The Book of Mormon: Verse by Verse" that I just love! First, I love Amulek! Here's what the authors say about him: "Amulek, the dynamic, new member-missionary with only a brief training experience, went out and taught great powerful sermons." Do you love this?

And then there is Zeezrom, who the authors state: "...Zeezrom, whom we might denominate the 'president of the Ammonihah Bar Association"! This is just too funny and makes this so real! I love Zeezrom and that he is smart enough to listen and to learn! I also found it interesting that lawyers were needed in Book of Mormon times.

I am so very thankful for the Book of Mormon and its teachings!!!

Today's question reminds me of the eternal perspective of life and what is important. We can get so caught up in all of the little day-to-day things that at times it can be very difficult to remember that these really are just the small minor things that we grow and learn from but there is so much more. We have to do our best each day so that we can grow and learn and one day return to home to our Father in Heaven. In Alma 11:43, it talks about having a bright recollection of all of our guilt. I know that this means we will remember all that we have done wrong; I know that we have to forgive ourselves for those things that we have done wrong and not let these things hold us back. We definitely can be our own worst judges! And, Satan loves it when he can 'get us' discouraged so that we don't want to be better. By remembering the eternal perspective of life, I know that we can be forgiven and each day is a new day to be just a little better, a little kinder and love a little more!
