Day 85, August 3, 2014

It's another catch-up Sunday!!!

Use today to get back on schedule!  Use your reading chart or this blog to find the chapters you still need to read to be caught up through:  3 Nephi 26

OR

If you are up-to-date with your reading, take time to study:  3 Nephi 11

To ponder:
What did the Nephites do to finally understand the voice they heard?  What were the first things the Savior taught?  What did Jesus say was his doctrine?

  1. I really like how most of these catch-up days are on Sundays. I'm all caught up now! And I did read 3 Nephi 11 through a second time afterwards. I don't know if I really caught any more the second time than the first--my brain just isn't functioning today. And it's terrible because, without my scriptures open, I can't remember enough to even answer the "to ponder" questions.

It took the Nephites a few times to recognize the voice. They had to first "open their ears" and then they had to "look steadfastly towards heaven, from whence the sound came." (verse 5) It wasn't until they did those things that they were finally able to recognize the voice of God.

After inviting the Nephites to feel the prints in his hands and feet to know of his divinity, Christ set forth the true covenant and manner of baptism. He then stressed the importance of getting along--contention is of the devil. After that he speaks a lot of the doctrine of baptism and especially repentance.

I love the blessing/promise he gives for obedience to his words. If we build on his rock, the gates of hell shall not prevail against us.

  2. What will we do next? Do we have a schedule for studying Revelations or Isaiah maybe? We are instructed to study prophet's words - particularly Isaiah's! We also need to know and watch for the signs of the times! What's next?
